Bashar's Syria: The regime and its strategic worldview
Article Abstract:
Modern Syria is the handwork of Hafez al-Asad under whose able rule Syria gained stability but the passage from the founder of the regime to his son has changed much of this. A number of issues that are relevant to the makeup of the Syrian regime, its regional strategy and world view and its behavior in relations with other states is the focus of a study at the Institute for Policy and Strategy.

The continued importance of geographic distance and Boulding's loss of strength gradient
Article Abstract:
Kenneth Boulding believed that one needs to be close to the target of aggression to be effective but many including President George W. Bush have expressed that proximity is becoming less important for prevailing in war. It is argued that this view is flawed since distance has retained its importance by virtue of the competitive nature of war as well as the impermanence of great-power status.
