Cargo cult science, armchair empiricism and the idea of violent conflict

Article Abstract:

A study criticizing the epistemological and methodological limitations of the scientific approach to the study of conflicts for carrying out a kind of cargo cult science and armchair empiricism is presented. Rationalist scholars largely conduct an armchair empiricism instead of immersing themselves in the complex nature of social mechanisms in a specific space-time context.

Rethinking the greed-grievance nexus: Property rights and the political economy of war in Sri Lanka

Article Abstract:

The study suggests that in the political economy of conflict, greed and grievances may be casually linked and reinforce each other. Case studies from Sri Lanka on local resource conflicts in the context of civil war support the proposition greed produces grievances, which in turn stabilize the war economy.

Sri Lanka's ethnic war had acquired the reputation of an orphaned and dirty war and invited widespread support for the peace process to end the war. The onset of the peace talks, its achievements are discussed exploring whether the peace process is still salvageable
