Corporate social responsibility: Reinventing the meaning of development?
Article Abstract:
The historical relationship between business and development and comparing the expectations of business as exemplified through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices from those in the past is examined. The role and expectations of business in developing countries is reviewed and two tests are proposed to make CSR, a positive contribution to development in business.

Article Abstract:
The different tools that poorer communities have develop in order to construct mechanisms of corporate accountability is explored. The process of promoting corporate accountability, and the relations of power rather than the achievement of narrowly defined indicators of corporate performance is emphasized.

Manufacturing amnesia states that most South African firms in favor of the term corporate social investment abandon the term Corporate Social Responsibility. This is done to divert attention from calls on business to redress the results of CSI historical contribution to the system.
