The national or the social? Problems of nation-building in post-world war II Philippines
Article Abstract:
The most important failure of US nation-building efforts in the Philippines was the failure to address the social question in the colonial and postcolonial era. Although a formal nation-state was built, the majority of Filipino citizens feel no connection to the state that in theory is the expression of their will.

Political corruption in the Philippines and South Korea is manifested by sets of political systems, state-society relations, types of external linkages, and development trajectories. The main barrier to reform is a strong executive branch.
