North Korean leadership: Kim Jong II's balancing act in the ruling circle
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the political leadership of North Korea's president Kim Jong II. The author asserts that the president maintains power through a complex balancing act through which he implements divide-and-conquer tactics to handle his political opponents and prevent any cleavages in his political circle, which is embodied by honor-sharing arrangements; unless there is a break in this power arrangement Kim Jong II can remain in power.
