Article Abstract:
There has been a significant growth in the magnitude, distance and variety of external operations of the European forces. While the European Union governments were falling behind the Headlines Goals target, they are maintaining fifty to sixty thousand troops on operations outside their common borders.

What is NATO for?

NATO will undergo a process of adaptation and innovation as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sep 11, 2001. Enlargement of NATO will boost European security, while NATO also gives the US a favoured position with this growing European security system.
