Patterns of Chinese policies on technology transfer

Article Abstract:

High-technology issues have dominated the US-China relations in the last years of the twentieth century due to the apparent transfer of sophisticated space-launch information that prompted a congressional investigation of two-major U.S. multinationals. In the economic realm, even as China negotiated its entry into the World Trade Organizations (WTO), technology bureaucrats defied trends in the global high-tech economy by imposing restrictions on foreign investments in high-profit technology industries.

Historical wrongs and human rights in Sino-foreign relations: The legacy of extraterritoriality

Article Abstract:

The verdict of Western liberal activist with regard to the invocations of absolute self-determination and noninterference by authoritarian regimes in the People's Republic of China (PRC), Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines is presented. These Asia-Pacific governments have defended their heavy-handed response to internal dissent with the positions that 'state sovereignty is the basis for the realization of citizens' human rights.
