Article Abstract:
An analysis of international relations (IR) theory focuses on the world's citizenries and the role of anarchic forces, particularly in the security sector. IR scholars put less emphasis on the concept of anarchy and its moral and emotional implications. They have not paid much attention to the role of citizens, who play an important role in the interstate system in terms of providing support for the security requirements of nation-states. Understanding citizens' role in the anarchic system is a motivating factor in developing ways to ensure responsible citizenship.

Democracy and peace
Article Abstract:
It has always been presupposed that peaceful interaction among states is a natural occurrence once democracy is established. However, current trends in world politics reveal that social and political turmoil in democratic countries is nearly as great as that in non-democratic countries. While the number of emerging democracies have increased significantly, the world remains mired in chaos and democratic peace remains elusive.

Democratic sanctions: Connecting the democratic peace and economic sanctions
Article Abstract:
The way in which democracies sanction both each other and other non-democracies is examined. Updated economic sanction data from 1978 through 2000 is used to employ the rare-event logic analysis to show that democracies employ sanctions more than other regime types, in part because democracies pursue human rights and democratization goals with economic sanctions.
