Ruling out gender equality? The Post-Cold War rule of law agenda in Sub-Saharan Africa
Article Abstract:
The post-cold war is referred to as a time of rule of law (ROL) revival but the bulk of legal reforms has focused on revising laws on commercial transactions and improving judicial efficiency in the resolution of business disputes. The ROL reforms have no agenda for social justice and alleviation of gender inequality and even in cases where the government has promised to safeguard women's rights the commitment is not reflected in the articulation of priorities or the allocation of funds.

Revisiting equality as a right: The minimum age of marriage clause in the Nigerian Child Rights Act, 2003
Article Abstract:
The introduction, reaction of different stakeholders, and the ways in which different women's groups and programmes have engaged with the emerging controversy over the age of marriage as per the Minimum Age of Marriage clause of the Nigerian Child Rights Act (CRA) of 2003 is examined. It is concluded that for international human rights treaties to make a difference for vulnerable groups they have to go beyond being evoked and advocated by groups to become tools of political action.

Challenging the margin: Gender equality and the UN reform process
Article Abstract:
The follow-up to the UN's call for a dynamic new gender identity has shown that bureaucratic red-tapism, conservative regimes, etc have led to the delay in this and something needs to be done by setting a deadline for a UN response, else the world's women should leave the UN and start afresh.
