Iraqi Kurdistan: Contours of a post-civil war society
Article Abstract:
The political and economic developments since the year 1991 are described to conclude that many of the factors, which led to destabilization in the North in the 1990s era, are still present in the rest of Iraq. These factors include the use of violence to create ethnic and sectarian tensions in pursuit of political ends, dependence on centralized food distribution, and foreign interference.

The prospects for democracy in Iraq: Challenges and opportunities
Article Abstract:
The challenges to the development of democracy in Iraq including the many decades of authoritarian rule, ethno-sectarian divisions, lack of security, and the hegemony of the state over the national economy are described. It is believed that the right policies could transform these challenges into opportunities.
