SACO in history and histories: politics and memory
Article Abstract:
The history of the Sino-American Special Technical Cooperative Organization (SACO) shows the way China influences the citizen's understanding of the past by distorting and manipulating history. SACO, a World War II organization, was jointly operated by the US Navy and a Chinese military intelligence agency. Although SACO dissoved in 1946, China falsely extended it into Chinese civil war and associated it with killing of political prisoners. Both the countries were instrumental in manipulating and distorting SACO's records to serve their political needs.
