The four-party peace talks: lost without a map
Article Abstract:
The four-party peace talks involving the US, North Korea, South Korea and China could create severe problems in relations between the countries involved if the US does not amend its approach. The talks began in 1996 as a part of an effort to avoid destabilization in Northeast Asia due to the growing isolation of North Korea. However, US tendencies to react to the brinkmanship of North Korea rather than have clear strategic aims could inflame relationships between the countries and undermine US interests. The US should be aiming to build confidence between North and South Korea.

De-alerting of U.S. nuclear forces: a critical appraisal
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the destabilizing effect of de-alerting nuclear forces. The dangers of accidental, unauthorized or unintended usage of nuclear usage were examined. The impact of the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons, and near-impossibility of determining the presence or absence of nuclear weapons were also discussed. Results indicated that the de-alerting of nuclear forces would increase the value of an opponent in launching a first strike.
