The case study of the Cape Town 2004 Olympic Bid (CTOB) is discussed to examine various aspects of bidding for major events in Olympics. It illustrates that contemporary sport associations and structures are strongly influenced by emergent global forces like global capital and dominance by certain regions.

Marketing Malaysia as a model modern Muslim state: The significance of the 16th Commonwealth Games
Article Abstract:
The ways in which the Malaysian government appropriated the Commonwealth Games as a global media spectacle are illustrated. This was done to gain publicity and as an opportunity to celebrate its multicultural national identity and to market Malaysia as a model modern Muslim society.

Bringing the world to Canada: 'The periphery of the center'

The promotion agendas of two Canadian cities that have hosted Olympic Games are outlined as well as comments on the aspirations of Vancouver for the Winter Olympics in 2010. The different aspects of 're-imaging' the city and its identity transformation are presented.
