Participatory development and empowerment: the dangers of localism

Emphasis by proponents of the "new" Left and "new" Right in economic development on local empowerment often underplays local power relations and inequalities. Effective development must account for how local politics can be affected by counter-hegemonic and hegemonic interests.

Beyond the American bubble: Does empire matter?
Article Abstract:
The concept of an empire in a globalized world, specifically in relation to the position of the U.S. in the world politics is analyzed. It is argued that the superpower/empire syndrome is embedded in the American bubble that leads Americans to underestimate resistance.
