The sources and nature of future conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region
Article Abstract:
Wars, in the first half of the 21st century, will be limited in purpose, space, time and intensity due to the destructive potential of modern weapons. Wars in the Asia-Pacific region will follow these global trends. They are more likely to be of medium intensity than of high or low intensity, and their causes will include religious differences, nationalism and economic disputes. Wars will continue to produce human casualties. Nuclear deterrence will continue to be a strategy, but the importance of space and information technologies will increase.
