Article Abstract:
The weak market economy in Turkey is mainly due to the absence of the institutionalization of a market-oriented economy under a stable democracy. The European Union (EU) can promote democratic consolidation in Turkey so as to transform its economy and to facilitate political stability in the region, as it achieved in Spain, Portugal and Greece, which would be beneficial to both Turkey and the EU.
