Article Abstract:
Mediation of divorce and other family disputes cannot be effective unless power imbalances between the genders are addressed. The goals of mediation are often subverted by those who take a traditionally masculine, adversarial approach and assume women will be submissive. Mediation can empower women by offering opportunities to be heard on their terms. All parties should take a humane and constructive approach to resolving problems.
