A safety net for dropouts; helping truant kids return to school benefits all of us
Article Abstract:
Georgia's Truancy Program is an example of the early intervention for troubled youth which is badly needed all over the country. The program is a joint undertaking of the Atlanta Bar Assn, the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and the Fulton County Juvenile Court. Volunteers from within and outside the bar are matched up with children reported for excessive truancy. These volunteers mentor the children. The program also provides other services such as a clothing bank and information services about emergency medical help and food.

Taking care of the kids; an often overlooked ERISA provision can assure children medical coverage
Article Abstract:
The Qualified Medical Child Support Order (QMCSO), added in 1993, is an exception to ERISA's general rule that state court orders are pre-empted to the extent that they relate to an ERISA plan. The QMCSO scheme allows divorce courts to direct private health plans to enroll divorced parents' children at any time and to prevent their disenrollment by the plan at a divorced parent's direction
