Accident compensation in the UK
Article Abstract:
The system for litigating on-the-job accident cases and determining remedies in the United Kingdom relies mainly on a concept of tort, leading to numerous problems for the parties involved. The major concerns for employees in bringing such a case against an employer are proving a breach of the duty of care and a direct causal link between this breach and the injury. Employers and employees both suffer from the vague standards involved and the uncertainty of outcome before going to trial. It is unlikely that a no-fault system will be adopted in the near future.

Revenue agrees new compensation scheme after record WRULD payout
Article Abstract:
Kathleen Tovey, suffering from work-related upper limb disorder (WRULD), received a record settlement from her employer, the UK's Inland Revenue, which has set up a compensation scheme for other WRULD-injured employees. The 150 other Inland Revenue WRULD sufferers' cases will be reviewed by a medical panel under this new scheme. The other injured employees will receive less than Tovey's 82,000 pounds sterling settlement, but their claims will be settled more quickly and with lower legal fees.

Accident recording and analysis
Article Abstract:
Safety managers can use personal computers software to record workplace accidents as required by UK law. Relational databases can be used to record the names of the persons injured, causes, and locations, as well as pinpoint areas of recurring accidents or widespread problems. Spreadsheets can also be used, but managers must be sure to use programs with adequate records capacity and reporting capabilities. A list of over 30 accident analysis software packages is included.
