Changing the Charter: the United Nations prepares for the twenty-first century
Article Abstract:
The UN's Charter will require amendment to be a viable document in the 21st Century, although members disagree as to an appropriate approach to such modifications. Many changes have taken place in practice without formal amendment. Areas requiring amendment include provisions on enemy states, Security Council voting, name changes, concurring votes, state succession, and observer status. Amendments may also be needed to clarify mandates for peacekeeping, the veto power, and jurisdiction.

The United Nations Treaty collection on the Internet
Article Abstract:
The United Nations in November 1995 began to make international treaties available on the Internet, and in 1998 continues its effort in this major project. The United Nations Treaty Series (UNTS) is being disseminated first; other treaties will follow. The project is challenging because financing is needed, the process is technically sophisticated, and 30,000 treaties have been published in print versions of the UNTS.
