The occupational health and safety regulations of the Australian states and territories involving designers, manufacturers, suppliers, and importers of industrial equipment encompass many who could be liable. Definitions are broad in these regulations without clear descriptions of duties imposed. Non-compliance penalties are high, so those involved with industrial equipment should act accordingly to protect themselves from liability.

The Industrial Relations Legislation Amendment Act 1992
Article Abstract:
The Industrial Relations Legislation Amendment Act 1992 became Australian law in July 1992. It amended the 1988 Industrial Relations Act with respect to the power of of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission. In the two areas of independent contracts and certification of voluntary agreements considerable changes were made. Small changes were made in several other areas.

Transmission of all or part of a business: a neglected issue in Australian industrial and employment law

Australian labor law is lacking in the area of business transfers. The law provides limited protection for employees involved in transfers, such as minimum notice requirements, severance pay, and advance consultation before termination, but these do not go far enough. Transfers have impacted Australian workers in the 1990s due to privatization and corporate restructuring.
