Big Mac bites back: English law and an experienced lawyer help burger giant win a case against small-fry environmentalists
Article Abstract:
McDonald's won its libel suit against two UK environmental activists but received tremendously bad publicity as a result. The company spent $16 mil to win $98,000 judgment in the longest trial in UK history, but the judge in the case declared as essentially true several of the activists's allegations of low wages and exploitation. Common law and case law on libel differ between the US and the UK, but the defendants in this case appeared to fare better under US law.

Reap what you sow: lawyer ethics could benefit from an application of Proverbs
Article Abstract:
The Old Testament book of Proverbs offers many guidelines to the legal profession, as recognized by those who laid down the foundation of American legal ethics in the mid-19th century. Moral values undergird ethical action, including legal practice, but the formal ethics codes used today have all but displaced the Judeo-Christian morals expressed in Proverbs. The values found therein address civility, honesty, justice, mercy, and purity.
