Can business score more for the poor?
Article Abstract:
The working poor comprise about half of the poverty problem in the US, and it is time for business to pay attention to this problem. Single-parent households with children are the other large contingent of poor people, caught between two undesirable alternatives - welfare and jobs that pay too little to make leaving welfare a reasonable choice. Another problem for the working poor is that poorly-paid jobs usually come with little or no health insurance.
