Compliance with unemployment-insurance job-search regulations
Article Abstract:
Compliance with the job hunting requirements of unemployment insurance can be enhanced, as shown by an analysis of data from Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, New Jersey and Washington. The study uses a model of benefits and costs for compliance decisions by workers. One result found was that the higher the penalties and likelihood of getting caught for violation, the higher the compliance. Other results indicated the importance of job hunt strategies and nonmarket opportunity costs.

Insurance and subrogation: when the pie isn't big enough, who eats last?
Article Abstract:
The equitable doctrine of subrogation should be extended by courts and adopted by legislatures to exist with a pro tanto rather than a make-whole regime. Such a system is more efficient and is more likely to actually make the insured whole. It should be extended even to cases where insurers' statutes of limitations have expired and where insureds' have security interests in tortfeasors' properties.
