Put tobacco executives on death row
Article Abstract:
Federal courts overcame in the 20th century the law's obstacles to indicting corporations for homicide. These dealt with the legal requirement that a homicide could only be committed by a natural person and that a corporation, as a fictitious person, could not have the requisite mental state for homicide conviction. Companies across the US have in recent years been convicted of manslaughter or murder. The tobacco industry and its officers have negligently or recklessly killed others with tobacco and the McCain bill should be amended to include criminal liability.

Judges having hard time with computer crime; sentencing standards aren't clear-cut
Article Abstract:
Computer crimes violate a federal law, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and come under the jurisdiction of the FBI's National Computer Crime Squad but with juveniles increasingly involved and federal sentences more severe than those levied by state courts, judges face the challenge of punishing offenders without ruining the possibly bright future of talented young people. According to the FBI, computer crimes are increasing, with the number the agency has investigated in 1998 up 133% over the 1997 total.
