Databasing World Wide Web research
Article Abstract:
Folio's $39.95 Web Retriever 2.1 DBMS enhances downloaded Web page's accessibility and value. It relies on the Folio Views engine to create full-text retrieval databases in the Folio format. Web Retriever also incorporates Folio Views' sophisticated and straightforward searching methods. It allows users to perform key word and phrase searches with both Boolean logic and wildcards. Web Retriever also provides users with a quick navigational database vehicle by automatically converting headings, titles and paragraphs from pages into tables of contents. Users can add searchable notes, highlighting and fields to their database and they can add related topic links to other software or to other locations within the database. Folio provides extensive and clear online documentation, overviews and help files. Folio neglected, however, to inform users that they must create a database prior to downloading.

Create easy pleading captions
Article Abstract:
WordPerfect 6.1's templates, graphics boxes and table functions are three features ideal for generating captions in legal documents. Earlier versions of WordPerfect do not have as many features, but are capable of creating adequate captions with the columns function. However, the table function is particularly useful, because it can be used to produce columns of different widths with proportionally spaced fonts aand centering options. Depending on the formatting demands of the particular court to which the documents will be submitted, WordPerfect can be used to create graphics caption boxes with solid lines, or the traditional X- and colon-style column separators in use before the advent of word processors. Many caption-related commands are located under the Table and Tools selections in WordPerfect's main menu.

Rehabilitating corrupt documents
Article Abstract:
Document corruption can happen anywhere, in word processors, e-mail, databases, spreadsheets or in operating systems. Passing files between word processors can result in roundtripping, or an unzipped e-mail document can be damaged in transit. When a WordPerfect file will not open, the x-retrieve process will change the document's header and enable the file to retain its original appearance when it opens. There are several approaches for opening corrupted Word files, including inserting the file into a new document or using a file converter. Sometimes files will behave oddly, an indication that it may be ready to crash. It is advisable to transfer the text of the file to a new file at this point.
