Distilling the truth about alcohol ads
Article Abstract:
The liquor industry targets much of its advertising at minorities, who in turn suffer from a disproportionate share of the diseases associated with alcohol use. Industry spokesmen maintain that there is no link between advertising and alcohol abuse and that opposing target advertising is patronizing because of the implication that minorities cannot make decisions in their own best interests. They also excuse their advertising practices by spending some of their earnings on programs to benefit the poor.

Establishment of religion and high school graduation ceremonies
Article Abstract:
The US Supreme Court in Lee v Weisman found that the Establishment Clause was violated by a policy involving clergy in public school graduation ceremonies. In the majority opinion, Justice Kennedy introduced a new psychological coercion test, but failed to address the issue of whether coercion must be involved in any violation of the Establishment Clause. The decision adds to the confusion over church and state jurisprudence by relying on result-oriented analysis instead of original intent.
