Greenbury: a brake on boardroom pay?
Article Abstract:
The Greenbury Committee, which was formed in Jan 1995 in response to general disenchantment over high pay rises for executives, released a report on Jul 17, 1995. The Committee advocates the need for extensive of remuneration committees, which should comprise solely non-executive directors who know the company and the industry well. Critics feel that the recommendations do not do enough to change the situation and that the shareholders having a final say on the remuneration committee's decisions may not be practical.

Where to pitch your managers' pay
Article Abstract:
UK business managers averaged 4.7% in pay increases during 1995, but directors' compensation increased 9%, well ahead of the inflation rate. Most individual salary schemes are merit-based, although a significant number are linked to team or company performance. Salary decisions should be based on market value and judgments as to where to pay within that market in order to recruit or grow.
