Supplement sales in E.U. soar; regulations abound; until the E.U. implements harmonizing legislation, companies marketing dietary supplements should know individual laws
Article Abstract:
The European Union is considering adopting a directive harmonizing the regulation of dietary supplements, in recognition of the fact that the demand for them has increased about 50% since 1991. Companies wishing to exert influence need to be aware of possible changes in the regulatory environment. Although with harmonizing rules manufacturers have an easier time knowing which rules apply, aspects of the new rules may be more restrictive than the national laws of some member states.
