Has affirmative action repaid society's debt to African Americans?
Article Abstract:
Affirmative action is a redistribution program addressing past unjust enrichment by whites. However, reparations to African Americans, as restitution for the suffering caused by slavery and discrimination, may be needed to provide renewed faith in the system and much-needed economic justice. Current wealth distributions favoring whites are built on past injustices such as slavery, which diverted capital from blacks. Affirmative action programs need to be understood in the business community as a means of providing partial restitution for historical injustices.
