The effectiveness of the insider-trading sanctions
Article Abstract:
Increased legal sanctions against insider trading were not effective in the 1980s. Increases included fines up to $1 million, ten years in jail, treble damages recovery, bounties for informants, responsibility of top management and rights for traders to take legal action. Despite these increases, insider trading quadrupled in volume. Analysis of data shows that an effective curb to insider trading comes from case law instead of legislation or shareholders acting to restrict executives.

Simple games in a complex world: a generative approach to the adoption of norms
Article Abstract:
Game theory can be expanded with the aid of computer modeling beyond two-by-two games to help analyze various factors of norm competition and adoption in a more realistic manner involving a variety of actors. The determination of when and how governments should regulate can be informed by a study of the power of social norms and their limitations. A new game strategy can aid in considering the many factors possibly involved in norm creation, maintenance, and competition.

Law or economics?
Article Abstract:
Economics interacts with law either for expert assistance or analysis of doctrines and institutions. The interaction between the two fields was spurred by the 1960 publication of R. Coase's 'The Problem of Social Cost.' Specific areas of common interest include capital markets and antitrust law, while a general area of commonality is the question of efficiency versus justice.
