Has technology introduced new ethical problems?
Article Abstract:
The theory of cultural lag as proposed by William Ogburn is considered in light of the rapid technological progress that characterizes contemporary society. Drawing on Ogburn's thesis that cultural progress lags behind material progress, it is argued that the gap between technological progress and the development of ethical guidelines designed to govern the use of new technologies is growing. To illustrate this argument, two areas of major technological progress, biogenetic engineering and computer-telecommunications electronics, are studied.

Communicating ethical values: a study of employee perceptions
Article Abstract:
A study involving a total of 215 employees confirmed that workers believe that business ethics can be taught with the aid of orientation programs and training. The report, which contradicts an earlier assumption that values can be learned only from the church and the home, also revealed that company ethical codes are the major source of information on ethics among employees. It is recommended that companies pay particular attention to the conveyance of their company values to employees.
