His tales of horror: Stephen King's legal affairs sometimes can resemble his fiction
Article Abstract:
Best-selling horror author Stephen King and his long-time attorneys Peter Herbert and Jay D. Kramer have dealt with many different legal issues during the author's career, including film and television deals, a few copyright infringement claims and foreign translation agreements. In one case which the court dismissed the plaintiff alleged that King broke into her apartment and took some of her poetry which he later used as the basis for his novel 'Misery.' King v Innovation Books objected unsuccessfully to the use of the author's name in the credits for the film 'Lawnmower Man.'

Judge Zobel made a wrong move in 'Woodward.' (Commonwealth v. Woodward, the Boston nanny murder case in which the judge set aside the jury verdict and substituted a lesser one)
Article Abstract:
Massachusetts Judge Hiller Zobel made a mistake of law in Commonwealth v. Woodward in setting aside the jury verdict of first degree murder against the British nanny Louise Woodward who allegedly murdered the baby in her care. When he had specifically precluded a jury from considering a lesser verdict, Massachusetts Rule of Criminal Procedure 25(b)(2) forbids the judge from setting a more serious verdict aside and substituting this lesser one. A lesser-excluded offense cannot be a Rule 25(b)(2) substitution.

Which work is the fiction?
Article Abstract:
The Oliver Stone film 'JFK' distorts the evidence available concerning the assassination of John F. Kennedy and unjustifiably attacks Chief Justice Earl Warren and the Warren Commission report. The film contains over a hundred errors and omissions, including suppression of evidence given by key witnesses in the investigation. While the film has been heavily promoted, supporters of the Warren Commission findings have not been given equal time to respond.
