Hostile takeovers: when the vultures call
Article Abstract:
The augmented debt brought about by hostile takeovers strengthens neither the US nor the global economy, and such takeovers do not give rise to new markets, new research, or better products. The assertion that hostile takeovers are good for society because they lead to increased efficiency in production and company management is also untrue. On the contrary, such takeovers have both social and economic costs. Communities in which the companies were an important presence suffer in many ways and laid-off workers have trouble finding comparable jobs.

Coexistence of similar genotypes of Daphnia magna in intermittent populations: Response to thermal stress
Article Abstract:
The diversity and thermal response of a fitness related trait, juvenile growth rate in seasonal population samples of Daphnia magna from two temperate ponds are investigated. Temporally isolated clones of Daphnia magna showed the typical asymmetric response for growth rate with temperature and a sharp decline after the maximum response at 26 degree centigrade (temperature of maximum performance or response).
