How the auto industry sets roadblocks to safety
Article Abstract:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) needs to regain the momentum it lost during the deregulation-prone Reagan-Bush years. Administrators appointed to NHTSA during the Reagan-Bush era had little background in the promotion of automotive safety and did conflicting work after leaving government such as expert witnessing for car company defendants. Many lives and medical expenses could have been saved but for this decade of inactivity.

Occupational health and safety in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States
Article Abstract:
The former Soviet Union was anything but a workers' paradise re: occupational health and safety, and contemporary Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States have been an improvement. The CIS and Russia continue to have some of the worst workplace safety records in the industrialized world. A historical overview is followed by analysis of current policies and suggestions for further research.
