Milked to the bone
Article Abstract:
Overregulation of the dairy industry is raising the price of milk. Dairy firms blame the recent price hike on the increasing cost of feed grain, but the real culprit is the labyrinth of regulations imposed by the US Dept. of Agriculture. Aside from exerting an upward pressure on prices, archaic dairy rules have distorted market signals and inhibited competition and innovation in the dairy industry. Without burdensome regulations, milk buyers would be able to save $2.7 billion annually.
