New laws address U.K. environmental damage: pending legislation is designed to heighten protection and identify those responsible for pollution
Article Abstract:
Pending UK legislation to update and improve environmental clean-up laws will involve substantial government authority and decisionmaking throughout the process and should simplify dealing with threats to ground and surface waters. The law is developing out of the nuisance regulation regime, which has proven ineffective in this area. It will establish one Environment Agency for England and Wales, and lays an express duty on all local British authorities to identify contaminated land and serve notice for cleanup.

Multiple policies are false security; in-house counsel with several roles may be denied coverage on malpractice, D&O policies
Article Abstract:
In-house corporate counsel often have less secure insurance coverage than they think because multiple overlapping policies give insurers a way to lay responsibility at one anothers' feet. Broad exclusions and imprecise language such as 'legal services' and 'practice of law' also offer a way to deny coverage. Conflict of interest on the part of the insurer's lawyers is another frequent problem, especially as many insurers reserve the right to select the insured's defense counsel.
