Petitions practice within the Patent and Trademark Office on Patent Matters
Article Abstract:
The scope of petitions practice handled by the Office of the Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Patent Policy and Projects and by the Examining Corps, two of the sub-units of the US Patent and Trademark Office, is quite extensive. Patent lawyers need to know the laws contained in title 37 of the Code of Federal Regulations, title 35 of the United States Code and the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure. Current knowledge of the Official Gazette Notices is also necessary to file patent petitions.

The Madrid Trademark Agreement's basis in registration-based systems: does the protocol overcome past biases?
Article Abstract:
The US, having never accepted the Madrid Trademark Agreement, could protect American trademarks in the rapidly expanding international marketplace by accepting the Madrid Protocol. However, the US trademark registration system is markedly different from use-based and registration-based priority systems found in other countries. These differences have historically kept the US from accepting international trade agreements.

Statement of the Patent & Trademark Office Society to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on procedures for recording patent prosecution file histories
Article Abstract:
The recording of file histories of patent prosecutions were the subject of a formal statement of the Patent & Trademark Office Society in response to a request for comments issued by the US Patent & Trademark Office. The Society believes that current rules are adequate and suggest that the government make no significant changes. Some suggestions are made and the Society requests the opportunity for further comment.
