RPE: a false sense of security?
Article Abstract:
UK workers in the asbestos removal and construction industries may have been exposed to deadly asbestos fibers through leaks in respiratory protective equipment, or RPE. RPE meets all laboratory test standards, but may not protect adequately in all actual work situations. The Health and Safety Executive has been criticized for failing to properly address this situation, despite its knowledge of RPE limitations. Moreover, site owners may have to take more responsibility for safety in this area.

How a computer can help the safety practitioner
Article Abstract:
Safety managers can use personal computers effectively, but only if they are knowledgable about the capabilities of PCs. Typical safety data can be characterized as personal data such as safety representatives' names, impersonal data such as equipment records, and text data such as company safety policies and manuals. Since data entry is expensive, safety managers may want to use existing databases or CD-Roms.
