Taking their best shot; fed up with gun violence, some cities may copy an Illinois father's tobacco-style suit against gun makers

Article Abstract:

Cigarette makers' retreat on smoking liability has caused a new optimism among anti-gun activists that suits against gun makers for criminals' use of their products might in the future be successful, although almost all prior suits have favored gun makers. Negligent marketing and public nuisance, the latter based on the idea that widely available guns threaten public right to health and safety, are two newer legal theories being advocated. Critics claim that gun makers feed the criminal market by devising guns that are cheap and easy to conceal.

Irrefutable evidence

Article Abstract:

Audio and video recordings of police interrogations with suspects may become standard procedure. Several important legal issues remain before taping is mandatory, such as secret recordings and how to penalize a police department for not recording an interrogation.
