The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's formula grant program: insights from interdisciplinary research outside the well-trodden paths of administrative law
Article Abstract:
An economist, criminologist and law professor researching the effectiveness of the US Justice Dept's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's grant program found that an interdisciplinary approach to researching federal aid programs was necessary to improve the match between funding goals and state services. The researchers' varied background enabled them to go beyond administrative law theories to examine the federal system for providing funds for state juvenile justice administration and crime prevention programs. More federal grant programs should combine federal funding with state program monitoring.

The Administrative Dispute Resolution Act of 1996: improving federal agency use of alternative dispute resolution processes
Article Abstract:
The passage of the Administrative Dispute Resolution Act of 1990 occurred when federal agencies lagged far behind the private sector in capitalizing on the opportunities available in alternative dispute resolution. The 1996 renewal of the Act and attached amendments exemplified, however, the agencies' recognition of the potential afforded by alternative approaches to resolving disputes. Agencies must continually seek new methods of incorporating alternative dispute resolution methods into their practices in order to fully benefit from the Act's provisions.
