The bankruptcy courts explore new automation to improve efficiency; better ways to manage data are considered
Article Abstract:
The US Administrative Office of the Courts has cooperated with the bankruptcy courts on a National Bankruptcy Noticing Center which should be operational in 1994. Participating bankruptcy courts would send data to the center electronically and it would generate notices to institutional debtors. Electronic storage of more data should also lead to faster information retrieval. Both federal and state courts have begun a project to develop 'Judicial Electronic Document and Data Interchange standards to standardize and facilitate information exchange among all levels of US courts.

Managing the library using automation
Article Abstract:
Law libraries can become more efficient if they automate the four main library functions of cataloging, acquisitions, serials management and circulation. The library budget represents one of the biggest parts of overhead for any law firm, and it makes sense to turn the library into a more efficient and cost-effective operation. The librarian choosing a computer system must consider whether attorneys will need to access it from their offices. A checklist of other necessary features needs to be decided on before choosing a computer system.

Article Abstract:
Law librarians' responsibilities have increased in step with the advance of information technology. THe new complexity relates largely to the issues of media format, how technology affects access to information, and trends in legal publishing. Choice of format is affected mainly by the immediacy of need, related costs, and the comfort level of the individual with the different media. The turbulent business of legal publishing makes close relationships to publishers still more vital.
