The costs of regulating Microsoft
Article Abstract:
The Dept of (DOJ) Justice has accused Microsoft Corp of using its dominant position in the operating systems market to attack its smaller competitors. It has also proposed antitrust remedies. However, the DOJ's concerns are misplaced and its proposed actions have a negative impact not only on the firm, but also on the computer industry as a whole. The case filed by the DOJ needs to be understood in the context of using antitrust regulatory tools to rein in dominant firms to prevent danger on initiatives that promote innovation, reduce rent-seeking and protect consumers.
