The ethics of arbitration in the securities industry
Article Abstract:
Arbitration of client-brokerage disputes in the securities industry makes neither side happy. Both sides agree that the process is in need of major reform. The 'hardball' legal tactics of the securities firms are a matter of concern as is the level of competence/accountability of arbitrators. Some are concerned about customers' being required to waive the right to sue in order to do business with all the brokerage houses. The securities industry wants to get rid of the practice of awarding punitive damages, while customers want them retained. A task force has issued recommendations.

Article Abstract:
The Defense Ethics Program provides a framework to help military personnel to mange in an ethical manner. The Defense Ethics Program contains many of the ethical components implemented in the business industry. A values-based program, rather than a compliance-based program, incorporates respect and enforcement of regulations with also carries an ethical mindset.
