Inventing history: the holder of the first U.S. patent
Article Abstract:
Pittsford Samuel Hopkins was the holder of the first US patent, granted in 1790 for discovering a method of producing pearlash, a more refined form of potash, an essential ingredient in the 18th century manufacture of soap. The US Patent and Trademark Office provided this information in a chronology of significant events given in a 1988 publication. Hopkins hailed from Pittsford, Vermont.

Constitutionality of a multi-national patent system, part II
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the constitutionality of U.S. ceding of the power for the granting and enforcing of patents to a multinational patent agency are discussed. Cases revealing the court's position on the delegation of judicial power, especially those on NAFTA, are discussed.
