Pinochet arrest is a step toward world justice
Article Abstract:
The arrest and proceedings against ex-President of Chile Augusto Pinochet for his crimes against humanity while in office relied on principles of international law widely accepted for decades.Lack of accountability for thousands of deaths and disappearances has shown how little social reconciliation there has been in Chile. The Pinochet regime's crimes extended to foreign countries and a world which does not stand for the exportation of lawlessness will be the better for it. A permanent international criminal court with jurisdiction over crimes against humanity is needed.

Bounty hunters rebuked; Miss. bondsmen's grab angers Texas jury, leads to extradition fight
Article Abstract:
A Texas grand jury ruled in the extradition case of McKee v. Fordice that three Mississippi bail bondsmen could be tried for aggravated kidnapping and burglary because they seized an indicted criminal in another state and brought him back to their own jurisdiction. The two charges are first-degree felonies and the bondsmen could receive life sentences. Part of the issue is that Texas has no laws on seizures by bondsmen from outside their jurisdiction.
