Transcending the concept of 'attorney;' Louis Nizer rubbed shoulders with the 20th century's greats

Well-known trial lawyer and author Louis Nizer has reached his 90th year of age and 65th year of practicing law. He has discussed some of his courtroom victories in bestselling books. These include 'My Life in Court,' 'The Jury Returns,' 'The Implosion Conspiracy,' dealing with the Rosenberg trial, and 'Catspaw: The Famed Trial Attorney's Heroic Defense of a Man Unjustly Accused.' He founded the firm Phillips Nizer and his well-known friends have included Armand Hammer, Jack Valenti and Fiorello La Guardia.

The stories of death penalty cases never stop reminding defense lawyers that the ultimate decisions belong to the client rather than the attorney. Erica Yvonne Sheppard, less well-known than her fellow Texan Karla Faye Tucker, assured the court and a psychiatrist that she understood what she was doing and on Apr 20, 1998, will become the first woman to face execution at her own behest since the Supreme Court upheld that penalty in 1976. She is not the only capital defendant to choose death

His defense attorney wanted him dead; but death row appeal lawyer confessed to sabotage at 11th hour

The story of criminal lawyer David B Smith's confession that he willfully sabotaged a death row client's case because he felt this person deserved to die is given. Smith's confession may save his client's life and cost him his legal career.
