Why competition won't cure America's health-care ills
Article Abstract:
Managed competition will not address the crux of America's health care crisis, cost and access. The entire health care system would not be placed on a budget, so there would be no overriding incentive to control costs. Moreover, the managed care systems in existence have only mixed records in cost control. The health insurance purchasing corporations representing the currently uninsured and the poor would be motivated by price rather than quality, so the poor would still get the lowest-quality health care. A single-payer system would be both more efficient and more accessible.

Lost in America: jobs and trust
Article Abstract:
The closing of Dixie-Narco Corporation's West Virginia plant caused tremendous suffering to the laid-off employees who eventually won an out-of-court settlement against the companies owner, Maytag Corp. The employees argued that the company deceived them into believing in their job security when their jobs were in jeopardy. Personal experiences of employees and lawyers and implications about the culture of corporate downsizing are discussed.

Sexual harassment: trust and the ethic of care
Article Abstract:
Sexual harassment should be perceived by the law as an ethic of care and responsibility rather than an ethic of justice and rights the way it is often perceived of by men. This approach may help men and women understand why sexual harassment is morally offensive. It may also help lead to a resolution of the problem.
