Working towards freedom from abuse: recognizing a "public policy" exception to employment-at-will for domestic violence victims
Article Abstract:
Victims of domestic violence often find their work situations negatively impacted by the abuse. Such employees who lose jobs for this reason should be able to fight dismissals in court by utilizing the public policy exception to at-will employment recognized in most states. Preventing dismissals for reasons relating to domestic abuse falls under the public interest in protecting crime victims.
