Programming in a competitive broadcasting market: entry, welfare and regulation
Article Abstract:
Two regulatory approaches were considered and assessed in terms of promoting programming diversity in television broadcasting industry. One regulatory approach is through direct instruction in which a regulator directs a television entity regarding materials to be aired by individual companies. Despite the fact the such regulation will lead to diversity in programming content and deter monopoly-related abuse, direct instruction regulation has the probability to result in unwarranted censorship.

Quality considerations in auctions for television franchises
Article Abstract:
A model patterned after the United Kingdom third TV Channel of a representative auction for television broadcasting was formulated to illustrate quality considerations involving television franchise auctions. The model showed that program broadcast quality and franchise are influenced by the asymmetry of information between companies and the authority. It was also revealed that by raising the number of bidders, the awarding of franchise bid is most likely be given to the highest bidder.
